Hayden Panettiere's Dad Arrested On Abuse Charges

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Authorities report "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere's father was arrested Monday on suspicion of hitting his wife.

Jail records show Alan Panettiere was arrested by Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies in West Hollywood. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says Panettiere remains jailed at a substation on suspicion of spousal assault, and is being held on $50,000 bail.

Whitmore declines to name the woman whom Panettiere is accused of hitting, but says she reported to deputies that he struck her three times with an open hand.

Whitmore says detectives will not release a mug shot of Panettiere.

Los Angeles court records do not indicate any prior charges for the 49-year-old father of Hayden Panettiere, who plays Claire Bennett on NBC's hit show, "Heroes."
