East Hampton Town officials have turned down the impresario's plans for a $100,000 fireworks show over East Hampton's Northwest Harbor on Sept. 2, out of concern that the spectacle could draw boaters to a risky, rocky area. Town Supervisor William McGintee said Diddy's extravaganza also might have conflicted with another fireworks show planned nearby that night.
The hip hop mogul had planned all-white pyrotechnics to match the soiree's dress code, said Fireworks by Grucci vice president Phil Butler.
The town did give Diddy a permit for the party, a sought-after stop on the summer social scene since the late 1990s.
Representatives for Diddy didn't immediately return phone messages left at their offices early Wednesday.
Diddy, 37, whose real name is Sean Combs, recently placed third in Forbes.com's "Hip-Hop Cash Kings" rankings, which pegged his 2006 income at an estimated $28 million. He has a clothing line, Sean John, heads Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment and its record label and hosts MTV's "Making the Band" series.
