The lawsuit claims that Palliser Furniture Ltd. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Palliser Furniture Corp. in North Dakota unlawfully used his name when manufacturing, advertising and selling "The Eastwood" brand of theater chairs.
Representatives from Palliser Furniture could not be reached for comment on the suit, which was filed Wednesday afternoon in U.S. District Court.
Eastwood alleges Palliser has also sold similar chairs using the names of other famous film stars, both living and dead, including "The Brando," "The Cagney," "The Cooper," "The Bronson" and "The Connery."
"Mr. Eastwood has a longstanding history of rejecting third-party licenses, reserving the exploitation of his personality rights and the goodwill associated therewith to his motion picture and other entertainment related projects and to other business ventures in which Mr. Eastwood is personally involved," the lawsuit states.
Eastwood is seeking unspecified damages, as well as an injunction preventing the advertising, sale and distribution of the chairs.
