Ex-'General Hospital' Actress Dies At 49

Shell Kepler Played Gossipy Nurse Amy Vining For Two Decades

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― Actress Shell Kepler, who played naughty nurse Amy Vining on ABC's "General Hospital" for more than 20 years, died February 1 of renal failure.

Kepler, who was 49, played the snippy, snooty and gossipy nurse during the show's glory days, the late 70s and early 80s, when Luke and Laura (her half sister) were out saving the world.

Kepler died in Portland, Oregon where she moved about 6 years ago when her soap stint came to an end.

Kepler was also a mainstay on the Home Shopping Club. She told AP in 1994 that one of her clothing lines, "Lacy Afternoon", had sales of $20 million in that year.

According to friends and family, the last few years Kepler (twice married and twice divorced) kept busy raising monies for various charities and fundraisers.

In addition to "General Hospital", Kepler also had roles on "CHiPs", "Three's Company" and "Port Charles", the now-cancelled "General Hospital" spinoff.

According to her bio on imdb.com, the Ohio-born Kepler also sang in a group called "Shell and the Crush" in the early 80s. That group released a five-song CD.
