Hello Dolly. Hello robbery.
Singer and actress Carol Channing was one of the patrons inside a bank in Palm Desert when it was robbed.
A man robbed the Washington Mutual Bank in the 72000 block of Highway 111 Friday afternoon, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
"Well, along with a lot of other people, I've been robbed," the former star of Broadway's "Hello Dolly" told CBS2. "We just bought a new house. It's really the first house I've ever had and not a hotel. This is our house, and they robbed us."
The man handed a teller a note demanding cash and the teller complied, sheriff's officials said.
He left with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen walking south in the parking lot.
No weapons were observed during the robbery and no one was injured, authorities said.
It's been a season of close calls for the raspy-voiced entertainer. In September, a "diamond dress" Channing made famous as Lorelei Lee in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" was stolen just before the actress could donate it to the Smithsonian. The dress, which was swiped when Channing was entering the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, was later found by a homeless man and returned.
The bank robber was described as white, in his 30s, wearing a white-and blue checkered shirt, tan pants and a black cap.
Anyone with information about the robbery was asked to call sheriff's Investigator Ken Black at (760) 836-1600.
