Summer Makes Spring Weekend Appearance
Record Temperatures Expected Before Monday Cooling Trend

You'll want to find some cool water to cool off in Saturday when temperatures around the Southland rise. And rise.

It's not your imagination. It's hot out. Very hot.
Offshore winds are credited (or is that blamed?) with pushing temperatures Saturday to unseasonably high levels. Various parts of the Southland, namely the valleys and mountains, are going to be well into the mid to upper 90s.
Dry, warm winds out of the north are forecast to be gusting up to 30 mph or more below canyons and passes this morning adding to the heat index. It will be a relatively cool 90 degrees downtown, according to the National Weather Service.
The normal high for this time of year is around 75 degrees.
Near-record temperatures are expected in valley areas, where the afternoon heat is expected to top out in the mid to high 90s. The strongest winds are expected in the western San Fernando Valley.
Some beaches could break 80 degrees, which is rare in the springtime.
Though the winds should peak this afternoon, the offshore flow is expected to continue Sunday, when more near-record temperatures are forecast.
A slight cooling trend is expected by Monday.
If it makes you feel any better, it's snowing in North Dakota.
