Weekend Heat Wave Prompted Surge In Power Usage
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power says energy usage across the city surged past record levels during the recent heat wave.
On Sunday, when the mercury reached a record 95 degrees at Los Angeles International Airport, customers used 4,168 megawatts, the highest energy peak ever recorded for a Sunday in April.
DWP customer energy use peaked at 4,817 megawatts of power Monday, the second-highest peak recorded in April for a weekday. The highest was 5,147 megawatts, recorded on April 27th, 2004.
Saturday's maximum load tied with for the highest Saturday on record in April, at 3,878 megawatts.
