How To Get The Best Hotel Deals
by Randy Paige
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
Summer is travel time for many of us so if you're looking to spend some time at a hotel, here is a way to get some great travel deals.
When Tracey Bruckner isn't playing with her kids, or working fulltime, you often can find her at her home computer, saving hundreds of dollars on her family vacations.
Tracey books her hotel rooms through priceline.com, the website that lets you bid the amount you would like to pay and if your bid is accepted, you are locked-in at that price.
The trouble is, how do you know your bid is low enough to get the best rock bottom price? That's where this website comes in, biddingfortravel.com
"People post what they were successful with, how much they got the room for and it gives you an idea where to start," Bruckner said.
On biddingfortravel.com, consumers list the bids they were successful with on priceline.com, the most successful bids are sometimes half the going price. For example, Tracey booked her family into rooms at the four stars Sheraton hotel in downtown Seattle, she saw that the going rate was $229.
"I saw from people's postings that they had gotten a downtown hotel for about $120 so I bid $120 on downtown Seattle and that was rejected so I went in and bid $125 and my bid was accepted," Bruckner said.
So she got a $229 a night room for $125. The only downside is you can't select which hotel you want to bid for, instead you select a category 2, 3 or 4 stars; and if your bid is accepted you are obligated to book the room.
"So if you want a hotel in downtown Seattle and you want four stars and you're flexible as to which hotel that is, then it's a great tool to use," Bruckner added.
Bidding For Travel has information about bids for hotels in many major cities in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
The company only provides information about priceline.com bids but there are other websites which offer similar information for other bidding travel websites like hotwire.
