The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County decreased Friday for the 13th consecutive day, falling seven-tenths of a cent to $2.97.
The average price was 3.6 cents less than a week ago and $1.627 lower than a year ago, but 17.5 cents more than a month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The Orange County average price fell 1.2 cents to $2.96, 4.1 cents less than a week ago and $1.599 less than a year ago, but 16.8 cents more than a month ago.
The Orange County average has fallen 13 of the past 14 days, after rising 46 of the previous 47 days.
"Prices are dropping very slowly, but they haven't been this low for Independence Day since 2005 when pump prices were averaging about $2.50 a gallon," Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California said.
"For the projected 2.3 million Southland car travelers that will take holiday trips this weekend, the gas price decrease -- along with numerous travel deals -- will give vacationers a lot more for their money this year."
