Pursuit Suspect Surrenders After Crashing Vehicle

CAR CHASES: Story And Video Archive

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― A suspect was arrested after he overturned his vehicle in an attempt to flee police officers, authorities said.

The chase began at 11:12 p.m. Wednesday near East 95th Street and South Main Street, said Los Angeles police Sgt. V. Valenti of the Southeast Station.

Police did not disclose the reason for the pursuit.

The suspect was headed southbound on Main Street and turned westbound on 95th Street, a dead end street, according to a sergeant from the Southeast Station.

As the driver approached the dead end he crashed into four or five parked cars and his car flipped over onto its roof, the sergeant said.

The man remained upside down in his far for about 40 minutes, as he refused to get out, Valenti said.

When the suspect finally gave up, he was taken into custody and transported to L.A. County Harbor UCLA Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, Valenti said.

The suspect will be charged with felony evading, the sergeant said.
