Alleged Buglary Ends In Pursuit Crash, 1 Dead
SHERMAN OAKS, Calif.
A motorist -- possibly a burglary suspect -- was killed early Saturday morning in a wreck in Sherman Oaks and four other people were injured.
Police and California Highway Patrol officers would not confirm reports that the roughly 3:30 a.m. accident on or near the Sepulveda Boulevard offramp from the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway occurred at the end of a pursuit.
One person -- the passenger in the car allegedly being pursued -- died at scene, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
According to reports from the scene, a CHP officer headed north on the freeway was passed by a speeding, gold-colored sedan, and began the pursuit.
The officer allegedly followed the car until it crashed on the Sepulveda Boulevard offramp, skidding into a concrete wall, killing a front seat passenger.
Four other people were hurt in the accident, according to the CHP, but there was no immediate word on their conditions.
Another driver allegedly told officers at the scene that he had chased the people in the wreck after catching them burglarizing in his home.
