LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― Police say a man who led a three-county freeway chase Wednesday has been booked on suspicion of murdering his ex-girlfriend in Panorama City.

Jasper Stallings, 27, of Los Angeles surrendered to police in Corona after the nearly hour-long chase.

Stallings was suspected of shooting his ex-girlfriend near Van Nuys and Roscoe boulevards shortly before noon. The 27-year-old woman's name was withheld pending notification of her relatives.

Police spotted the suspect's red pickup and started following it 12:20 p.m. The chase led onto the Ventura (134), the Foothill (210) and the Orange (57) freeways before heading east into Riverside County on the Riverside (91) Freeway.

Along the way, the suspect threw two bundles of what appeared to be papers out of the truck, as SKY 9 followed the action.

The driver exited the freeway at Lincoln Avenue in Corona and came to a stop about 1:15 p.m. at the end of the offramp, where about two dozen law enforcement cars massed behind it. About five minutes later, the suspect got out of the truck and surrendered.
