A man in a stolen car led police in a chase across Los Angeles and up the Malibu coast. Ventura County sheriff's deputies laid out a spike strip to stop him at Point Mugu, authorities said.
The chase began in the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Division, in the northeastern corner of the San Fernando Valley, sometime before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Officers followed the vehicle on several freeways at speeds up to at least 70 miles per hour, according to police radio broadcasts.
The suspect fled west on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway to the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica. Preliminary reports indicated that the driver may have struck another vehicle on Highway 1 near Temescal Canyon Road in Pacific Palisades, but no injuries were reported.
The pursuit was handed over to Ventura County sheriff's deputies west of Malibu, and deputies laid down a spike strip to stop the vehicle near Point Mugu, said Los Angeles police Lt. Sunil Dutta, ending the chase just before noon.
No other details were immediately available.
