Woman Leads Police On Wild Chase In U-Haul Truck

SLIDESHOW: Police Chase Woman Driving Stolen U-Haul Truck

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) ― A woman in a reportedly stolen U-Haul truck who led authorities on a high-speed chase through Southern California has been tackled by an officer as she ran from the vehicle.

The chase began Wednesday afternoon in the high desert city of Palmdale, wound through Los Angeles and then headed west along Pacific Coast Highway into Ventura County.

More than two hours after it began, the U-Haul truck finally ran out of gas and came to a halt on a rural road in Somis. The driver sprinted away from the truck, yanked on the door of a stopped car and then was chased down and arrested.

The suspect was later identified as Alisha Nicole Mankin, 25, of Littlerock. There were two active warrants for Mankin's arrest.

In addition to the warrants, Mankin will be booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, recklessly evading peace officers, driving while under the influence of a controlled substance and misdemeanor hit and run, according to authorities. Mankin was held Wednesday on $75,000 bail.
