Three men who robbed customers at a Torrance Starbucks Coffee shop led police on a 25-minute freeway pursuit, crashed into a guardrail on a downtown Los Angeles freeway off ramp, tried to run away, but were arrested, authorities said.
Booked for robbery and evading arrest were: Christopher Sawyer, 21; Sidney Roberson, 26; and Kenyatta Dasher, whose age was not immediately known, said Torrance police Officer Dave Crespin. All are from Hawthorne.
The robbery occurred about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday at a Starbucks near Crenshaw and Sepulveda boulevards, said Torrance police Lt. David Petersen.
Three men, each with handguns, entered the coffee shop and robbed about 20 customers, he said.
Witnesses told police the robbers fled in a white sport utility vehicle, Petersen said.
Torrance police spotted the suspect vehicle near Crenshaw and Artesia boulevards and a chase ensued, he said.
Officers pursued the suspects at speeds ranging from 60 mph to 100 mph on the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway, northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, westbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway and the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway, Petersen said.
The chase ended when the white SUV spun out on the 4th street off ramp from the 110 Freeway and crashed into a guardrail, he said.
The trio bolted from the wrecked SUV, fleeing westbound on foot, Petersen said, but all three were arrested within five minutes.
"One of the suspects jumped off the 4th Street bridge," he said, adding that it was a roughly 15-foot drop and that the man may have suffered a broken ankle, he said.
There were no injuries during the robbery or pursuit, Petersen said.
The names of the three suspects were not immediately released.
