11-Year-Old Leads Police On High-Speed Chase

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) ― An 11-year-old Bakersfield boy will face a juvenile court judge Wednesday to plead to felony charges resulting from a 100-mile-per-hour chase on Highway 99.

California Highway Patrol officers stopped him south of State Route 166 on Friday and booked him into Kern County juvenile hall on charges of evading arrest and driving without a license.

Officers say the 4-foot-3-inch boy had to stand on the floorboard of his parents' Mercury Sable to reach the pedals.

The county probation director says a judge will decide Wednesday whether to release him to his family or keep him in custody.
