AT&T Moving Headquarters To Dallas
DALLAS (CBS) ―
AT&T announced Friday that it is moving its corporate headquarters from San Antonio to Dallas, reports CBS station KTVT-TV.
The move, expected to involve some 700 San Antonio-based employees, is expected to be completed by year's end. There are nearly 6,000 AT&T employees based in San Antonio.
The new AT&T headquarters will be located at 208 S. Akard in downtown Dallas.
Officials with AT&T say the move to downtown will put the company near "many of its key technology suppliers and other telecom companies." Those North Texas companies include Cisco, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Nokia, Nortel and Samsung.
"Being headquartered in Dallas will benefit our long-term growth prospects and human resources needs, and our ability to operate more efficiently, better serve customers and expand the business in the future," Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and CEO, said in a statement on the companies' Web site.
Officials with AT&T say the move is meant to gain better access to its customers and operations throughout the world. Company leaders say air travel to and from Dallas will be "more convenient, time efficient and cost effective."
