Suzanne Rico
Suzanne Rico, co-anchor of the Emmy award winning CBS 2 News from 5-7 a.m., joined the CBS 2 team in October of 2002. Before that, she traveled the world, covering the 9/11 terror attacks in New York, the war in Afghanistan and the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
Rico brings a wealth of experience to CBS. She anchored and reported the news for NBC San Diego, and worked for the ABC Television Network in Los Angeles, spending more than a month in Littleton, Colorado covering the Columbine Massacre. She has interviewed newsmakers from President Clinton to Oprah Winfrey. Rico also spent three years in Chicago at WLS-TV, where she worked in the Investigative Division, breaking many big stories, including the use of the date rape drug Rohypnol.
Rico began her journalistic career at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she majored in Mass Communications, then received her Master's Degree in Broadcast Communication from San Francisco State University.
Nominated for several awards, including several Emmys and Press Club, Rico's show has won two Emmys for Best Newscast, as well as taking top honors in the prestigious Breaking News category. In her off hours, Rico donates her time to the mentoring group A Place Called Home, Olive Crest and the Special Olympics. For the past several years, she has mentored two young women from South L.A.
Rico is also an avid athlete. She plays tennis, golf, water and snow skis, scuba dives, and has run three marathons. Her fastest time was three hours, nine minutes.
