Sandra Mitchell

An award-winning journalist, Sandra anchors the CBS 2, News at 11 a.m. with co-anchor Kent Shocknek.

Sandra also reports and anchors for KCAL 9 news. Sandra has been honored with two Golden Mike Awards and an Emmy Award for live coverage of an unscheduled news event. A gifted storyteller, Sandra has reported from the scene of many of Southern California's biggest stories, including the devastating 2003 and 2007 wildfires and the Scott Peterson murder investigation and trial. Sandra also anchored live coverage of the deaths and funerals of former presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford and the 2007 wildfires.

Sandra is a magna cum laude graduate of the Temple University School of Broadcast Journalism in Philadelphia.

She began her career in print journalism, reporting for her hometown newspaper in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and later for the Pulitzer Prize-winning Philadelphia Inquirer. She transitioned to television news, anchoring and reporting for the CBS station in Huntsville, Alabama and later in New Orleans and St. Louis. Sandra has also reported for ABC News and "Good Morning America," covering the crash of TWA Flight 800 in New York. In 1999, she made the jump to Los Angeles, working for the syndicated television show "EXTRA," before joining CBS 2 and KCAL 9.

Sandra has been married for 22 years to her college sweetheart, now a commercial actor and writer. They have a bubbly 7-year-old daughter and a crazy Siamese cat: "Twiggy."

Sandra enjoys helping others: as a member of her neighborhood board of directors, the annual host of "Make A Difference Day" in Santa Clarita and through her church.
