Kirk Hawkins joined the CBS 2 and KCAL 9 News team in September, 2008.
Before Kirk arrived in Southern California, he worked at WFTV in Orlando, Florida; KXLY in Spokane, Washington; and KCOY in Santa Maria, Calif.
Kirk has covered everything from the Michael Jackson trial to space shuttle launches.
In his reporting work, he has also tracked down an international fugitive and flown with U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
Kirk graduated from the University of California in Santa Barbara with degrees in Communication and Political Science. He also had a minor in History.
While covering a prison riot, Kirk was nearly arrested. Personally, the story had a good outcome: he wasn't arrested and Kirk was lauded by the Associated Press for his work.
He has also been honored with two Edward R. Murrow Awards and has one Emmy nomination to his credit.
Kirk's reporting has also been recognized by The Society of Professional Journalists.
Kirk is a native of Southern California.
