Josh Rubenstein

Josh Rubenstein is a staff meteorologist and general assignment reporter for CBS 2 and KCAL 9. He started with the station 10 years ago. Currently he can be seen forecasting the weather at 11 a.m. on CBS 2 and Noon, 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. on KCAL 9.

Rubenstein is also a field reporter for both stations. He has covered major stories in recent years. From the frontlines of numerous wildfires here in the Southland to flash flooded neighborhoods, Rubenstein has provided insightful analysis of the weather conditions that had the potential to significantly impact the disasters.

Drawing on his experience as an aircraft pilot, Rubenstein played a key role in the CBS 2 and KCAL 9 coverage of the crash of a single-engine airplane into a local apartment building in June 2003.

Prior to making the move to Southern California in 1996, Rubenstein honed his reporting skills in his home state of Illinois with television stations in Champaign, Rockford and Peoria.

Rubenstein earned his bachelor's degree in speech communications from the University of Illinois. He then earned his certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. Rubenstein has also been awarded the National Weather Association Seal of Approval as well as the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval. He is also one of a handful of meteorologists in the United States with a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal.

When he is not monitoring the Doppler Radar, Josh is a passionate baseball fan and will root for our Los Angeles Dodgers…as long as they are not playing the Chicago Cubs. Rubenstein, his wife Jenna, and his 2 1/2-year-old daughter are hardcore Chicago fans.
