Harold Greene
Award-winning journalist Harold Greene joined CBS 2 News in January 2001. He currently co-anchors KCAL 9 News at 4 and the CBS 2 News at 6 p.m.
Greene brings 30 years of hard-hitting news experience with him. He's covered the Southern California area and reported on the stories that have shaped our lives.
In the 1970's Greene covered the feminist movement, anti-war protests, and the Chicano rights demonstration. Greene produced and hosted Harold Express, a weekly television news magazine show, as well as an annual musical variety show Homegrown and Greene. Both shows earned Greene an Iris Award from the National Association of Television Program Executives and a local Emmy award.
In the 1980's Greene's coverage of the Cerritos mid-air disaster earned him a Golden Mike Award. He hosted ABC's AM Los Angeles, interviewing top newsmakers and entertainment's top stars. He also created and produced Hollywood Closeup, a weekend entertainment show, that aired on all ABC owned and operated stations in the country. In the '90's he moved to primary co-anchor of ABC Eyewitness News at 5 and 11 p.m. He's covered stories that affect every Californian, such as gun control, gang violence, the homeless, and immigration. Greene brings these issues to the forefront here at CBS 2 News.
Harold Greene has interviewed every U.S. president since Richard Nixon. He's covered every major story in Southern California over the past 20 years.
Among Greene's honors are 12 L.A. Press Club Awards, 10 Golden Mike Awards, three Edward R. Murrow Awards, two local Emmy Awards, nine Emmy nominations, two Iris Awards and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism Award.
Greene himself became part of a news story, when he was awarded his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in July 1999.
Ever present in the community is Harold Greene. He makes the time to speak to civic groups, schools and charitable organizations. Greene also sponsors his own golf tournament to benefit the Pacific Lodge for troubled boys in the San Fernando Valley, and emcees numerous charity events.
In his spare time, Greene enjoys playing golf, surfing, and watching movies. He is married to his high school sweetheart and has two grown children.
