BB9 Blog: The Big Veto Upset!
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
Here's what I'm going to tell you about tonight's episode: The. Game. Is. On.
Yes, my patient, fellow BBuddies, all this time we've been bogged down by couples and "twists" and all that stuff. Well, tonight, some serious GAME PLAY went down.
At first, I was worried. The episode was so chock full of he said/she said/no he said/well she said, blah blah blahing, I thought that I was never going to keep it straight.
So let me just get you to the endpoint: We are now living in a house divided.
On one side:
Sharon
Joshuah
Chelsia
James
They all want Matty out. They think he's the strongest player. Initially, they caught Natalie at a weak moment when she had just been spurned by Matt again, and got her to unite with them...for about five minutes.
Then she saw her soul mate again, he gave her a hug, and boom, all was right in her world. She blabbed the whole master plan to him. Needless to say, he was not pleased. But, he does have to admit his appreciation for Natalie.
Matt: Why would you tell the girl who's obsessed with me that you want me out of this house?
So, he went upstairs and told Ryan about the plan that those four had come up with. In exchange for putting Matt up on the block (provided either Sharon or Chelsia won the Power of Veto), they would keep Ryan safe for two weeks. Ryan told Matt that there's no way he's going along with this.
Later, Joshuah came and presented the plan to Ryan, who surprisingly told him that he already knew about the plan for Matty, who was told by Natty? You following? It doesn't matter.
At this point, all you need to know is that it seemed as though Ryan was going back on his word to Matty and really thought the plan made sense. Let's put up Matty while we have the chance to backdoor him. Seemed pretty much a done deal.
Then we had the veto competition. (I know, I haven't returned to my "house divided" statement. I will. Just keep up.)
Chelsia, Sharon, Sheila, Adam and Ryan play a variation on pool to compete for the POV. They also win other prizes.
In a strange but sweet moment, Adam basically gives Sheila 10 grand, saying how much he knew she needed the money. She was extremely touched. A decent side of Adam? I know. See, I told you, SHOCKING night!
Anyway, eventually Ryan wins the competition but decides to leave the POV with Chelsia, who had won it earlier. He instead takes the 10 grand from Sheila, all but nullifying Adam's one good deed.
But, it is interesting that Ryan was clearly wanting his nominations to be changed so that he could put up someone else. Most people, elated Joshuah, Sharon, Chelsia and James, still really thought it was going to be Matty.
Meanwhile, Sheila (looking fierce in the unitard that Jen from BB8 so loved last season), is still bummed over losing all that money. Chelsia says, "Oh don't play the single mom card..." and this infuriates Sheila so much that she decides to actually start playing Big Brother!
She takes Ryan aside and gives him what can only be described as a serious "mom lecture. "You need to know something. They're all telling you they have your back, but you will be out of here as fast as they can throw you. These people are clowns. We have your back, Natalie, Adam, Matty and me... They're using you and manipulating you and they're sick. Who do you trust?"
Who else kind of loves this new take-charge Sheila?
And, you might have noticed, she called out the other side of our divided house:
Sheila
Adam
Natalie
Matty.
Not lost on Ryan is the fact that is now smack dab in the middle of two sets of four people who are trying to twist him and turn him in every which way. (Kind of reminds me of Jen and Allison, actually.)
But Ryan pulls through and lays out a huge surprise nomination. Chelsia takes herself off the block of course, and Ryan comments on how he's now torn in two directions. With that, he nominates... JAMES.
Joshuah is dumbfounded.
Matty is elated and starts his triumphant screaming/dancing fit around the house. "Sorry that didn't work out for you!," he says to Joshuah, before running outside to celebrate.
Everyone else is equally stunned. Chelsia looks like she's going to cry, and James, smiling wryly from the diary room, says, "I feel like I got played."
But it's ballsy Ryan who has the last word. "I'm nobody's bitch in this game."
Somehow, I'm starting to believe him.
But what do you think? Was this an upset? Sharon vs. James on the block? Are these interesting nominations? It does force many of the house-guests to decide against some of their closest allies which is something we always love, don't we?
Moreover, the house-guests still don't know that someone -- Jacob, Jen, Parker, Alex, Amanda or Allison -- is coming back to replace whoever they evict! Got a preference?
Let us know!
