Amelia Earhart and Sky2 attend the 2009 LA Sheriff Helicopter fly in.

On Wednesday afternoon, my pilot Aldo and I jumped in Sky2 to head down to the annual Long Beach Airport sheriff's helicopter fly in. It is a great event that allows news crews, city and county officials, public information officers, pilots, controllers, and many others get to know each other. This promotes good communication on the ground, but especially in the air.
I love getting to know the other crews because when I arrive over a breaking news situation, I can feel comfortable asking questions, being in the same airspace and also communicating with the crews. It helps us all appreciate and understand the goals of each organization.
When we arrived, we were directed to land next to the Air Rescue 5 helicopter which is a massive 46 year old chopper that is often used to hoist large items off the ground and also rescue people in dangerous situations. This chopper is a twin age Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King. I have seen them in the air but never on the ground... it is at least three times the size of Sky2.
I thought my cockpit was spacious... you could literally fit our chopper inside this ship. Amazing!
